The Regions are difficult because many associations have multiple teams in each division. Teams from the same association are not scheduled to play each other when possible, and hopefully not until the second round of the playoffs. Therefore, teams of the same association are spread across regions. Where there are A/B regions they are put into 1,2,3,4 first and then moved to A/B. This is done because teams in Region A will play against teams in Region B for their non-region games. Sometimes there are too many teams in a region (if the regions only have 5 or fewer teams) and so a team might be moved from its home region.
Not all teams stay the same from season to season. It is impossible to be sure that each team gets 3 home games one year and 4 the next.
You must be from one of the few cities that don't have enough fields. If your franchise has more than 10 teams and only one playing field, it was not possible to schedule each team with 3 home games. Here is the math. 7 weeks, 5 games per field per week equals 35 home games. 35 divided by 3 is 11 and 2/3. Therefore, if your franchise has over 12 teams it is mathematically impossible for all the teams to have 3 home games.
Sorry, but no. The constraints on the fields and referees make it difficult to even get all the teams 3 home games. Two teams from the same franchise may not even have the same opponents.
The conferences (North, South, East, West) are arranged every year according to the number of teams. Each franchise is assigned a conference, then teams are moved to balance the number of teams in each conference. This is also done so Franchises with multiple teams don't have to play each other in a conference game.
No. In every division that has an even number of teams, every team plays every week. In divisions where the total number of teams is odd, there is one and only one Bye each week. Consider yourself one of the "chosen" few. Most of the time the byes occur in the same region. Sometimes if there are not 7 teams in a region. The region that was paired with the unlucky region will have some teams that have a bye.
Pass the word, NO! The points scorred are NOT used to determine the standings only the number of Conference games won! See by-law 13.2.2 and 15.0.0. The points scored and points allowed are not posted anymore because coaches were still running-up the score. It was thought that because the points were tallyed they were used in the rankings. To avoid confusion the columns were removed. Note the bottom of the table "*Only Conference games are used in ranking."
