Legendary Coach Thom Budge

Legendary high school football coach Thom Budge passed away yesterday at the age of 65.  Budge led the Bonneville Lakers for 31 seasons from 1975 to 2005, amassing the second most wins in Utah high school football history.  At the Laker helm, Budge won fourteen region championships and one state 4A title in 1980.

His success, however, is not the story.  He was a man of integrity, a man of loyalty, a man of honesty, a man of faith.  He will be remembered by those who played for him as unwavering, old-fashioned, disciplined, a leader.  Coach Budge was a fierce competitor, despite rarely raising his voice.  His mere presence commanded your respect.  Unassuming, he didn’t like the spotlight or the accolades.

Countless young men owe a great deal to this gentle giant.  More than a coach, he was a teacher.  Teacher of life’s lessons such as sacrifice, hard-work, perseverance, humility, and more. May his legacy continue to be felt by those in our football community.  He represented this game with honor, won the right way, left us having “Paid the Price” to better the lives of others.  Thank you Coach Thom Budge!

Playoff Brackets Coming Soon!

There has been some discussion in the Forums about the Playoff Brackets and Region breakdowns.

“When does the playoff bracket come out that shows where the regions will fall in the bracket. I realize they can’t put a team on there but I would like to know the Regions so I can start looking at those possible matchups.”

Everything you need to know about the playoffs will be out soon.  We are working on it and hope to have it on the site in the next week or so.  Keep checking back.

WFFL Clinic on Thursday, September 17th at Weber State

Weber State Football is hosting its annual WFFL Clinic Thursday, September 17th at the practice field on campus.  The clinic will be run by Head Coach Ron McBride and will last approximately one hour.  WFFL Night at Weber State is this Saturday, September 19th at the home game vs. Idaho State.  Kickoff is set for 6 pm and all players with jerseys and coaches with current badges get in free of admission.

Photo of the Week Clarification

We mentioned last week that we were going to award a Photo of the Week for each division.  After discussing this, we have decided that once we get 10+ more photos per division this will happen.  In the meantime, we will just award for the ONE photo of the week.  Keep sending your photos in…many people are viewing the photo gallery pages and enjoy this feature of the site.

We are getting a lot of great submissions and find it hard to choose one great photo for that week.  So, beginning next week, we will be awarding a Photo of the Week for each division.

• Please make sure to only send ONE photo per division.
• Get your photo submitted before 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
• Make sure to include the Division, Team Names, and Date
• Please try to keep your uploaded photo under 1 MB, and less than 1000 pixels wide as it is causing problems with our uploader.

Please make sure to send in your best video and photo highlights for Week Three.

All entries need to be sent in by Sunday at 6:00 p.m. to be considered for the Photo of the Week or Video Highlight for that week.  All photos and videos submitted will be posted on the Photo Gallery page, or our WFFL YouTube channel.

Many are asking how to upload a photo or video.  Please refer to the hyperlinked pages below:

• We have implemented a new Photo of the Week and Video Highlight of the Week.  The instructions are on those pages under the Fan Zone tab.
• We have implemented a new Forum structure.  For those of you who are not familiar with a Forum, it is a place for fans and coaches to discuss the match-ups, games, league rules, etc.  Please read and abide by the rules prior to signing up. Unfortunately, we were not able to preserve past forum comments or user logins.  We apologize for an inconvenience this may cause.

Welcome to the New WFFL Website

Welcome to WFFL.com.  You will see that we have updated our website recently.  Here is an overview of what you can expect, where to find things, and how to get engaged.

• The Association pages are located under 2009 Football Season.  This functions primarily the same way the previous site did.
• We have implemented a new Photo of the Week and Video Highlight of the Week.  The instructions are on those pages under the Fan Zone tab.
